A new poster for ‘Alien: Covenant’ gives us another terrifying glimpse at the iconic xenomorph… and it looks as though it’s on the prowl. Clutching her favourite space rifle as she hides from the slathering alien, Daniels (played by Katherine Waterston) is definitely channelling the Ellen Ripley look. Not bad, and it’s clearly intended to remind us that this is an ‘Alien’ movie following the ‘mixed’ critical responses to ‘Prometheus’.
Ridley Scott is in early development at Fox to direct and produce a “Battle of Britain” World War II movie with Matthew Orton writing the script. During an interview with Fandango, Ridley Scott revealed that there’s another ‘Alien’ movie to follow the upcoming ‘Alien: Covenant’. “There will be another one before we kind of literally and logically, clockwise, back into the rear back head of [the original] ‘Alien’,” said Scott as he explained the chronology of all the recent and upcoming ‘Alien’ movies.

As well as launching Crowe as a major leading man, ‘Gladiator’ also re-energised Scott’s directing career, the ‘Alien,’ ‘Blade Runner’ and ‘Thelma and Louise’ legend having hit a bit of dry spell in mid-1990s with such critical and commercial disappointments as ‘1492,’ ‘White Squall’ and ‘GI Jane.’ By contrast, ‘Gladiator’ wound up making $456 million worldwide and scooping five Oscars including Best Picture and Best Actor for Crowe (although, alas, no Best Director award). This is not the first time the notion of a ‘Gladiator’ sequel has been brought up.
It’s not 100 percent clear that anyone really wants to know where the aliens we first met almost 40 years ago in Alien came from — as with all the best horror-movie monsters, their mysterious origin is partly what’s so scary about them. Nonetheless, Ridley Scott seems to think the world must know how and why the xenomorphs came to be, as evidenced by his upcoming Alien: Covenant, a second prequel to his 1979 original, which will delve further into the creatures’ backstories. ...
Spotted in a set visit piece published in the Sydney Morning Herald (spied by folks ay Alien and Predator fansite AVPGalaxy), Scott revealed that he is plotting his next move this year. “While working on Alien: Covenant, he had the next instalment written so he is ready to keep advancing the saga,” the article reads. “You’ve got to assume to a certain extent success and from that you’d better be ready,” says Scott.
