The announcement earlier this year that a ‘Splash’ remake is in the works immediately led fans of the original to ponder if there would be room for Tom Hanks. When Hanks was quizzed about whether he is involved in the new incarnation of ‘Splash’, he responded, “No one asked me! I’m all in favour of it. In the 1984 version of ‘Splash’, Tom Hanks’ Allen Bauer falls in love with Daryl Hannah’s mermaid after she saves him from drowning.

It looks as though Tom Hanks approves of the ‘Splash’ remake. During an interview with ET Online, the 60-year-old actor (who starred in the original ‘Splash’ alongside Daryl Hannah) revealed that he’s happy to see the film getting remade. The upcoming remake will star Channing Tatum and Jillian Bell in a gender-swapped version of the original - Channing taking the role of the mermaid (or merman) while Jillian Bell takes the role of Tom Hanks’s original character.

Splash Gets A Remake With A Twist
It looks as though classic mermaid flick ‘Splash’ is getting a remake. During an interview with CNBC, producer Brian Grazer revealed that the iconic tale of man meets mermaid is being remade… but it might be doing things a little differently. ‘Splash’ originally debuted back in 1984, starring Daryl Hannah as Madison (the mermaid) and Tom Hanks as her love interest, Allen Bauer.
