It seems that long-rumoured ‘Beetlejuice’ sequel is still nothing more than a rumour, as recent reports that a sequel is about to start production have been declared untrue. A representative of Tim Burton told Entertainment Weekly that quotes attributed to the director were fabricated, and that no ‘Beetlejuice’ follow-up is in development. It’s particularly surprising to hear a sequel isn’t even in development, as the director and stars Michael Keaton and Winona Ryder have all spoken publicly in the recent past about their interest in revisiting the ghost with the most.
Director Tim Burton has confirmed that the long-in-gestation ‘Beetlejuice 2’ is go. Speaking to Showbiz Spy, he said: “The film is a go and has been approved by the Warner Bros. team, we have talked with the cast members we wanted for the film and they are all on board, this includes both Winona and Michael. One of the most beloved movies of the 80s, Keaton will be reprising his role as the anarchic Betelgeuse, the freelance 'bio-exorcist’ ghost who assists a recently deceased couple scare the owners of their old house into leaving.
