The cast of ‘Thor: Ragnorak’ repeatedly expanded over the course of its production.

Rather than it just being Chris Hemsworth and Tom Hiddleston as the warring siblings Thor and Loki, this time around they will be joined by Mark Ruffalo’s Hulk and Benedict Cumberbatch’s Doctor Strange, as well as Cate Blanchett’s Hela, Jeff Goldblum’s Grandmaster, Tessa Thompson’s Valkyrie, Karl Urban’s Skurge, and Sam Neill in a mysterious role, while Idris Elba’s Heimdall and Anthony Hopkins’ Odin will return, too.

Because of the size of the ensemble, comparisons have been made to ‘Captain America: Civil War’ and the two ‘Avengers’ films. Even director Taika Waititi has now made this observation, explaining to the AV Club that he was very much aware of the cinematic heaven that he was working in.

“Sometimes I would stop and think, I’m doing a movie that’s got Thor and Doctor Strange and The Incredible Hulk and Loki and every character is so strange and different,” Waititi admitted.

At this point he then compared to ‘Ragnarok’ to ‘Civil War’, but insisted that his film is different because of the characters and creatures that it has at its disposal.

Waititi continued, “’Civil War’, it’s just humans, humans with human problems. Ours is creatures and beings and all these sorts of really different characters. Again displaying human problems, but in outer space or in other worlds.”

We’ll get to see if ‘Ragnarok’ can match the acclaim of its predecessor when it is finally released later this year on November 3, 2017.
