After already grossing over $20 million at the box office, the horror hit Talk to Me is officially getting a sequel.

On Tuesday (August 8), Deadline reported that a sequel is in the works, with Danny and Michael Philippou back to direct. The film, titled Talk 2 Me, will be once again written by Danny alongside Bill Hinzman.

Following Deadline's report, A24 confirmed the news by sharing to Twitter a video with the caption "Summoning a sequel".

Danny had previously told Deadline that, given the numerous redrafts he'd done, he couldn't help but "start writing other scenes, scenes of different people experiencing the hands, continuing on these characters’ story"

"So, there [are] scenes for a sequel, yeah," he added

Along with its box office success, Talk to Me was a hit with the critics. We at Digital Spy gave it a four-star rating in our review, writing: "Talk to Me is meticulously crafted to scare the shit out of you, haunting you long after the credits have rolled. Fun for all the family this isn't."

Talk to Me centres on a group of friends who discover they can conjure spirits with an embalmed hand — until grieving teen Mia (Sophie Wilde) takes things too far.

Speaking recently about the film's ending, Danny said it was meant to be "open to interpretation".

"I really wanted it to be open to interpretation," he said. "There [are] so many parts to the ending, where we've just left nuggets and hints and things throughout.

"If you go and rewatch the film, and really analyse what's happening in every frame, there [are] things that are... there. I can't wait for someone to break it down and find every single piece and put the puzzle together. Everything has meaning."

Talk to Me is out now in cinemas.
