Yahoo Movies Tamara Ecclestone has £50m worth of jewellery stolen in burglary at London home
Burglars stole £50 million worth of jewellery from the London home of Tamara Ecclestone, the heiress and socialite, on Friday, it has been claimed.
Thieves evaded detection from the 24-hour security at Ms Ecclestone’s £70 million mansion on a street dubbed “billionaire’s row” in Kensington, West London. Tamara is the daughter of billionaire Formula 1 magnate, Bernie Ecclestone.
The raid, which is believed to have lasted 50 minutes, took place after the 35-year-old heiress left England to spend the Christmas period abroad.
Ms Ecclestone shares her 57-room property with husband Jay Rutland and her five-year-old daughter Sophia.
Those behind the break-in are believed to have gained access to the property via the back garden.
A spokesperson for Mr Ecclestone confirmed the robbery to The Sun: “I can sadly confirm that there has been a home invasion. Internal security are cooperating with police in this matter.
“Tamara and family are well but obviously angry and shaken by the incident.”
A neighbour described the robbery as shocking “because it is one of the most secure houses in London on one of the most secure streets in London.”
“Whoever did this was in the house for 50 minutes in total and had time to smash open the safes that are hidden in Tamara’s dressing room and Jay’s dressing room.
“Neither would be easy to find. Every single piece of jewellery that she had in her safe has gone and some of them had such personal meaning,” a neighbour told The Sun.
Among the stolen items were precious rings, earrings and an £80,000 Cartier bangle given to her as a wedding present.
They claimed a security guard disturbed the raiders after they had been in the property for around 50 minutes at which point they fled through an open window.
The jewels were reportedly stolen from two safes in the property, one belonging to Ms Ecclestone and the other belonging to her husband.
The street Kensington Palace Gardens is permanently patrolled.
A Met spokesperson confirmed they received a report of a burglary on Friday evening.
“Police were called to a residential property in Palace Green, W8, at 23.11hrs on Friday 13 December, to reports of a burglary.
“Officers attended. It was reported that an amount of jewellery had been stolen. There have been no arrests. Enquiries continue.”
