Yahoo Movies Tenet's Christopher Nolan explains time inversion – but fans might be more confused
Back in May, Tenet star Robert Pattinson dismissed the theory that the upcoming movie centres on time travel. Now, writer-director Christopher Nolan has explained what its actually about... or attempted to break it down, anyway.
In a lengthy interview with Entertainment Weekly, the filmmaker insisted that his latest outing "deals with time and the different ways in which time can function." (According to the trailer, that appears to mean something along the lines of firing a gun to catch a bullet, rather than shoot one).
"Not to get into a physics lesson, but inversion is this idea of material that has had its entropy inverted, so it's running backwards through time, relative to us," he continued.

With Pattinson starring alongside John David Washington, Tenet is very much a spy thriller, Nolan went on to suggest, as he noted how firmly its events take place "in a world of espionage" and secret identities.
"[Washington] is playing an operative who is known by the term 'Protagonist.' Tenet is the name of the organisation into which the Protagonist gets inducted.
"He is very much a presence at the heart of the film, but, unlike a Bond, he has a very warm emotional accessibility," he added.

Pattinson's character, a man who "operates within, what they refer to as, this twilight world of operatives in different secret services", might go by a more conventional moniker.
"We think he may be called Neil. You never really quite know what's going on with these identities."
Set to be released next month, Tenet also features Aaron Taylor Johnson, Elizabeth Debicki and Kenneth Branagh.
Tenet is currently slated to arrive in cinemas on July 31.
