Terminator Genisys Sequel Is Pulled From 2017 Schedule

Maybe this time he won’t be back after all.

The sequel to reboot ‘Terminator Genisys’ has been dropped from next year’s release schedule by Paramount Pictures.

Now the forthcoming 'Baywatch’ movie, starring Dwayne Johnson, will be taking its place instead on May 19, 2017.

It was set to be the first movie in a new trilogy of Terminator movies, but speaking in October last year Skydance, the production company behind 'Genisys’, said that following a disappointing performance at the box office, it was ’re-adjusting’ its plans.

This new move might mean that the planned two further films could be off the cards, for the time being at least.

It’s fair to say that 'Genisys’ was not well-received, either by movie fans or at the box office.

With a return performance from Arnold Schwarzenegger as the T-800, it starred Jason Clarke as John Connor, Emilia Clarke as Sarah Connor and Jai Courtney as Kyle Reese, with 'Game of Thrones’ and 'Thor” The Dark World’ helmsman Alan Taylor directing.

It first came under criticism after a major plot point appeared to have been revealed in one of the trailers.

It was then hammered by critics – it holds a lowly 25% approval rating on reviews aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes – and only received with lukewarm enthusiasm from fans.

It grossed just $89 million (£63 million) in the US, making $440 million (£310 million) worldwide. Though that seems a more sizeable sum than its $155 million (£110 million) budget, it’s likely that after promotion and marketing costs, it will only have broken even, or thereabouts.
