• Briana Monroe texted the father of her son that she was going to kill herself and her child, say police

• Monroe suffered from sickle cell disease, which family members say caused her chronic pain, 12 News reports
A Texas woman sent an ominous text message to the father of her son before she was found dead with the child in a murder-suicide, authorities say.
The bodies of Briana Monroe, 26, and her 1-year-old son Giavon August were found in her car on Saturday, the Beaumont Police Department said in a statement on Monday.
The two were reported missing on Saturday afternoon by August’s father after he received an alarming text message from Monroe, according to the statement.
“He said she sent a text indicating that she was going to kill the child and herself,” the statement said.
The man contacted Monroe’s family members but they were also unable to reach her, per the statement.
While authorities were investigating her disappearance, family members found the bodies of Monroe and August in a vehicle in a park in Beaumont, per the statement.
Monroe was in the driver’s seat and Austin, who recently turned 1, was in the backseat, authorities told 12 News Now.
Both of them had been shot, authorities said, per the outlet.
Family members told 12 News Now that Monroe suffered from sickle cell disease, a set of red blood cell disorders that can cause pain and fatigue.
She experienced pain as a result of the disease. But for her family, that condition doesn’t explain her actions.
Monroe was the mother of two other sons, family members told 12 News Now.
