Update: Sony provided the Yahoo Movies US team with a statement about the 'X-Men' credit sequence at the end of 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2'. It reads as follows:

“Yes, there is an X-Men coda during the closing credits of ³The Amazing Spider-Man 2².  As you know, moviegoers have come to expect a coda on many of their Marvel films, and they're often disappointed when there isn't one.  We saw this as a win for fans and audiences everywhere as it's the next Marvel movie out of the gate.

“The entire credit sequence is a coda of sorts, opening with a virtual schematic created to tease comic book fans regarding what¹s ahead for them in the Spider-Man universe.”

They also confirmed that the credit sequence would appear in the US, and presumably in the rest of the world as well.

Original story: Sony’s ‘The Amazing Spider-Man 2’ has a mid-credits sequence featuring 20th Century Fox’s ‘X-Men’.

The credit sting features Jennifer Lawrence as Mystique battling a young William Stryker in an army barracks alongside a host of other mutants including Toad and Havok played by Lucas Till.

It’s an action-packed sequence that ends with a plane taking off. We presume this is the Vietnam-set section glimpsed in one of the trailers.

Does this mean that ‘Spider-Man’ and ‘X-Men’ will be joining forces any time soon?

It’s highly unlikely. We believe it's just canny marketing placement from Fox who are currently promoting ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’.

Marvel fans expect post-credits sequences from their comic book films, so its likely that Fox have simply arranged to have what is essentially a trailer for their film play at the end of Sony’s.

The mid-credit sequence is a late addition to the 'Amazing Spider-Man 2' print, as it definitely was not there when the film was screened for press.

With 'Spider-Man' and 'X-Men' at different studios, the mid-credit sting has caused some confusion amongst movie-goers on Twitter.

It's unclear whether the mid-credit sequence will appear globally or just here in the UK. We're awaiting clarification from Sony.
