The Amazing Spider-Man 2 villain gossip: Another actor to play Electro?

Jamie Foxx admits he may not return for more Spider-Man sequels.

We don’t know much about 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2', Marc Webb’s sequel to the 2012 smash hit, but we do know that Spidey will be facing off against a multitude of villains.

The biggest bad of the lot is set to be Electro, a villain with a taste for high-voltage carnage who, along with his human alter-ego Max Dillon, is portrayed by Jamie Foxx.

But despite two more sequels already having been green lit, Foxx isn’t sure that he’ll be returning to the character, hinting that someone else could take on the mantle in future films.

“I’ll say this, I don’t know if you’ll see me in that,” he explains when quizzed on the sequels, “But I do know this: electricity never dies, it just goes somewhere else, so with that in mind you know…[shrugs] hopefully.”

Electro will be facing off against Spider-Man alongside Rhino with Paul Giamatti flexing his villain chops as the robo-suited Russian mobster, and Dane DeHaan’s Harry Osborn.

Fans familiar with Sam Raimi’s 'Spider-Man' films will know Osborn turns into Green Goblin, but having been absent in Webb’s first film, Peter Parker’s friend-turned-enemy will have a slightly different origin in this as DeHaan explains.

“Harry comes back into town. He’s been away from New York City for a very long time,” says DeHaan, “He sees Peter [Parker] again for the first time, in a very long time, so there’s a reconciling of that relationship.”

Hooking up with old pals isn’t the only thing on Harry’s mind however.

“There’s also the responsibility of being heir apparent to Oscorp and the responsibility he has towards his father,” the actor explains.

Fans of the comics will know that Harry’s father is Norman Osborn (Chris Cooper in the new film) the affluent President of Oscorp, an ambitious technology firm in New York City.

The nefarious company, also indirectly responsible for Peter Parker’s transformation into the webbed wonder, looks set to play a big part in the sequel and future installments of the franchise as Osborn junior.

“It becomes very obvious that all of these villains are originating from Oscorp.”

As well as Electro, Rhino, and Green Goblin, there are hints of other unannounced villains in the trailers including fan favorite Doctor Octopus and Vulture.

Brit actress Felicity Jones has hinted that she’s playing jewel thief Black Cat in the film and it’s recently been revealed that BJ Novak is playing Alistair Smythe, who fans of the comics will know ends up as a villain known as Ultimate Spider-Slayer.

Subtle.

While Marc Webb says Electro is this film’s centerpiece baddie, he's clear on what the main threat of the franchise is.

“[Electro’s] the main feature, to be sure,” says the ‘500 Days of Summer' director, “But there are going to be other surprises we’re coming out with. There’s really one big bad villain in all of these movies and that’s Oscorp.”

"All of the creepy , crazy, dark, mean, and nasty things that emerge from the Spider-Man universe come from Oscorp.”

Whatever it is that has Spider-Man spooked in the new film, one thing is clear, Jamie Foxx is relishing the chance to play evil after years of being the hero.

“I was having a ball because you get the chance to talk great lines,” said Foxx, "That's what you do when you’re growing up and you’re watching movies with your favorite actors saying lines that will hopefully last forever."
