The Batman is apparently a different kind of Batman movie

The Dark Knight kicks it up a notch… according to Deathstroke.

According to Joe Manganiello, who plays Deathstroke in the upcoming movie, Ben Affleck’s Batman film is going to be very different to those that have come before…

“[Ben Affleck’s] take is a fresh take but I think the audience is going to be surprised,” he told the Mark Madden, Super Genius Podcast. “Because it’s a road that no one’s really gone down that’s completely integral to, you know, who Batman is.”

“I think it’s gonna be refreshing but at the same time completely familiar,” he added. “But it’s going to take this franchise in a direction that I think a lot of people are going to be really happy about.”

What does that mean?

Well, if you believe the hype, it could mean that reports of ‘The Batman’ script being in a spot of bother could be very, very wrong. But let’s be clear - this is an actor bigging up one of his biggest films to date.

And let’s be honest - what he has said is a bit… vague.

“It’s going to be gritty and action packed and cerebral and all of those elements that people love about Batman,” he added. “Everything is lined up for a really really really great movie. Not only a superhero movie but just a great great movie.”

Of course, we’ve heard the word ‘gritty’ used to talk about Batman before - most notably when it comes to Christopher Nolan’s Dark Knight trilogy. And we all know how the third instalment turned out.

But could Ben Affleck be onto something?

It certainly sounds like a big claim - especially when you consider just how big Batman has been in popular culture over the years. Could ‘The Batman’ blow all previous Batman movies out of the water?

For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But we really hope so.
