The battle continues in Underworld: Blood Wars trailer and character posters

The new trailer for ‘Underworld: Blood Wars’ hints at a grand finale to the conflict that has now been raging for five films over thirteen years. Watch it above.

Directed by first-timer Anna Foerster and written by Cory Goodman, ‘Underworld: Blood Wars’ sees Kate Beckinsale return as vampire warrior Selene for the fourth time (she sat out 2009 prequel ‘Underworld: Rise of the Lycans’).

It would seem we’ll see Selene ascend to whole new levels of supernatural badassery this time around, as a visit to a mystical mountain appears to leave her with truly otherworldly abilities.

However, the newly released character posters remind us there’s more to ‘Underworld’ than Beckinsale alone. ‘Blood Wars’ sees the return of Charles Dance, who joined the series in fourth film ‘Underworld: Awakening,’ as vampire elder Thomas.

Also returning from ‘Underworld: Awakening’ is Theo James (who has since found greater fame in the ‘Divergent’ movies) as Selene’s ally David.

New to the series is ‘Game of Thrones’ and ‘Outlander’ actor Tobias Menzies, as the Lycan leader Marius.

Each successive film in the action-horror series has seen the war between the vampires and the Lycans grow that bit more complex – and this trailer seems to imply an end of sorts to that war.

Although just how final that will be remains to be seen, as there has already been talk of Beckinsale reprising Selene yet again in a sixth movie.

‘Underworld: Blood Wars’ opens in UK cinemas on 3 February 2017.
