The Conjuring 2: First Trailer For London-Set Sequel About The Enfield Poltergeist

The first trailer for horror sequel ‘The Conjuring 2’ has been released online, teasing a new ghostly mystery for paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren to solve - this time in North London.

This new film is based on a real life paranormal phenomena called the Enfield Poltergeist, the details of which focused on a council house in Enfield in the late 1970s and garnered a lot of coverage in the press.

Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga return as the Warrens, who are based on two actual paranormal investigators of the same name who travelled to London to find out more about the case.

James Wan returns to direct the sequel, which also stars Frances O'Connor as Peggy Hodgson, the single mother to a family of four children who live in the supposedly haunted house. In real life Hodgson called police alleging that furniture in the house was moving and knocking sounds could be heard in the walls.

Later on claims were made of demonic voices, thrown objects and the levitation of the four children who lived there. There’s even alleged photographic evidence of these occurrences. Both police officers and photographers back up the claims, but there are of course sceptics as well.

The Enfield Poltergeist story was subject of a Sky Living TV mini-series last year starring Timothy Spall. So if you saw that you’ll already be caught up on the story.

'The Conjuring’ was released in 2013 and did good business, making over $300 million worldwide from a budget of just $20 million. As ever in the horror genre, it didn’t take long for a sequel to be given the go-ahead.

Of course in the film itself there will be no doubt about the ghostly goings on in Enfield, so expect jump scares and a chill up your spine come the film’s release in UK cinemas on 17 June.
