The Dark Knight Rises Had A 'Perfect' Ending Says Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Christopher Nolan’s ‘Dark Knight’ trilogy remains the pinnacle of DC adaptations on the big screen, despite the continuing efforts of Warner Bros’ DC Extended Universe.

'The Dark Knight Rises’ rounded the trilogy off in spectacular fashion, and its star Joseph Gordon-Levitt has been singing its praises four years on.

Asked about cinematic universes in general, Gordon-Levitt told Cinemablend: “They don’t really have a beginning, middle, and end.

“I think Nolan very much thought of that movie as a conclusion, and there’s a theme that runs through all three of those movies that begins in the first movie, runs through the second movie and it concludes in that moment where he says that Batman is more than a man, Batman is a symbol.

"And so to have another man other than Bruce Wayne kind of becoming Batman at the end of that trilogy, I think that’s the perfect ending to that story.”

At the end of 'The Dark Knight Rises’, Christian Bale’s Bruce Wayne saved Gotham and hung up the cowl, leaving the suit, equipment and Batcave to Joseph Gordon-Levitt’s police officer John Blake.

The final shot of the film is Blake - real name Robin, of course - finding the Batcave.

While 'The Dark Knight Rises’ was the worst-received of the trilogy, it remains a unique superhero movie in terms of its scope, style and the fact it’s an ending.

Hopefully Ben Affleck’s upcoming solo Batman film can live up to the Nolan trilogy. Before then however, he’ll play the Bat for a second time in 2017’s 'Justice League’.
