Jesse Eisenberg plays two roles in ‘The Double’, one is the timid milquetoast Simon James, and the other is his doppelgänger James Simon, the brash bully who invades his life.

Both characters often appear on screen together, which led to some creative solutions in the film-making process from director Richard Ayoade.

“What’s hard is that Jesse is playing one part, then we pick a take on set,” explains the writer-director, “Then [Jesse] hears that chosen take back in his ear through an earpiece.”

“The motorised camera then does the exact same movement again, as he plays the other character.”

You can see body doubles, wearing rubber Jesse Eisenberg masks, were also used to create the illusion.

‘The Double’ which also stars Mia Wasikowska, Sally Hawkins, and Wallace Shawn, is out in UK cinemas today.
