According to Variety, the upcoming DC superhero movie – which sees Ezra Miller star in his first solo outing as The Flash – is getting a page one rewrite.

“While ‘The Flash’ waits to find its new director, Warner Bros. has tapped Joby Harold to do a page-one rewrite to the script,” they revealed. “The pic has been on hold since losing director Rick Famuyiwa and while it waits to find his replacement, the studio has decided to take script in different direction.”

What does this mean?

Essentially, the folks at Warner Bros. likely consider the central concept of the film to be relatively good… but the script itself has problems. A page-one rewrite gives new writer Joby Harold the opportunity to go back and start again.

So not exactly a quick edit.

And this is just the latest setback for ‘The Flash’.

Back in 2016, ‘The Flash’ lost not one, but two directors. Originally helmed by Seth Grahame-Smith until he eventually dropped out, Warner Bros. tapped Rick Famuyiwa to take the reins. But he too decided that ‘The Flash’ just wasn’t for him.

Instead of rushing to find another replacement, it looks as though Warner Bros. is using this unsettling time to take ‘The Flash’ in a new direction. With a new writer and yet-another new director, this could completely reinvent the project.

And they’re probably hoping it’ll help ‘The Flash’ gather steam, too.

For now, it means that ‘The Flash’ is extremely unlikely to make its 2018 release date. And it looks as though the fastest man alive is going to be taking his time to get to the finishing line.

‘The Flash’ apparently heads to cinemas on 27 July 2018.
