The Ghostbusters Honest Trailer destroys the reboot in a brutal but fair manner

Paul Feig’s all female ‘Ghostbusters’ reboot provoked the ire of movie fans so ferociously that it never really stood a chance when it was released earlier this summer.

But while it certainly wasn’t the worst movie ever made, it didn’t come close to matching the 1984 original, and when combined with its underwhelming box office performance of $228.9 million that was good enough for all the haters who sabotaged its release to claim victory.

‘Ghostbusters’ has now been given the Honest Trailers treatment, and while it admits that the hate was unwarranted it also concedes that it was instantly forgettable. You can check out their thoughts on the comedy below.

That’s about fair. As the above points out, the ‘Ghostbusters’ reboot created a perfect storm of hatred, as those that hated the trailer paired together with people that hate reboots and individuals that just like to write hate on the internet to repeatedly admonish it, all without seeing a single frame.

One of the reasons why the fine but forgettable ‘Ghostbusters’ reboot ultimately failed, though, was that each of the foursome tried to play the comic relief. Kristen Wiig was awkward, Kate McKinnon was random, Leslie Jones was down to earth, and Melissa McCarthy was physical, but they tried to stuff too many jokes in, many of which underwhelmed, and that ultimately waylaid the entire film.

Its villain was also pitiful, being replaced by Chris Hemsworth for the final act, while its plot was too similar to the original, the cameos from Murray, Hudson, Weaver, Potts, and Aykroyd were shoehorned in, and you couldn’t help but wonder why it wasn’t a sequel or straight reboot.

But there were still enough solid laughs for it to be deemed enjoyable. While its attempts to influence a whole new generation of young female moviegoers was inspiring, and the fact that it failed to do just that reflects poorly on everyone who ruined its release thanks to their scathing, unwarranted attacks.

In fact, the real lesson from the failed reboot of ‘Ghostbusters’ is that sometimes humans are just the worst.
