The San Francisco home that housed Robin Williams’ classic 90s comedy ‘Mrs Doubtfire’ has been sold for an eye-watering £3.1 million, thanks to its place in Hollywood history.

It’s where, in the film, Williams’ desperate father decides to dress and act as a Scottish nanny so he can spend more time with his children during a messy divorce that’s kept them apart.

In 2014, after the legendary comic tragically committed suicide, the house become an impromtu shrine to the star, with hundreds of well-wishers traveling to the city to leave flowers of remembrance outside.

Located on Steiner Street in San Francisco, Califronia, the late 19th century building has four bedrooms, an office, three and a half bathrooms, many other spacious rooms and a view of San Francisco bay. It’s also been described as ideal for a young family.

It was listed for sale in September for $4.45 million, but according to the San Francisco Chronicle eventually sold for $4.15 million.

“Because it’s built on a wide corner lot, the public rooms are large scale and the home has an open feel,” said listing agent Steven Gothelf of Pacific Union Christie’s International.

Dr Douglas Ousterhout, who previously owned the home, purchased it in 1997 for $1.395 million and is said to have always been welcoming when it came to fans of the 1993 comedy.
