Real estate website Redfin (via The Wrap) confirmed that the house went into contract this week. The property had been listed for $850,000, although the final sale price has not been revealed.

The previous owner had purchased the property for $950,000 in 2010.

Built in 1927, 112 Ocean Avenue has a dark history. Previous tenant Ron DeFeo murdered six members of his own family there in November 1974; thirteen months later the Lutz family moved into the property, but left within a month, claiming to have experienced terrifying paranormal phenomena.

The case was chronicled in Jay Anson’s 1977 book ‘The Amityville Horror,’ which was adapted for the screen in 1979 by director Stuart Rosenberg, with a cast including James Brolin, Margot Kidder and Rod Steiger.

A slew of sequels followed, many of which are unofficial as the ‘Amityville’ title is in the public domain.

The latest big screen entry in the franchise, ‘Amityville: the Awakening,’ will reach cinemas in January 2017, after having its release pushed back several times (it had originally been set to open January 2015).
