There’s gun-slinging, horse-whispering and lot’s of Johnny Depp channeling a good bit of Sparrow-esque style. All in all it’s good news for those excited by the actor’s re-teaming with POTC producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Gore Verbinski.

But the focus in this new clip is the endearing friendship between Armie Hammer’s Ranger and Depp’s sidekick Tonto – making up for the disappointingly dry teaser trailer that failed to excite back in October.

Verbinski said: “’The Lone Ranger’ is a story of two outcasts bonded by adversity at a time when the lines between right and wrong have become blurred.

“With no well defined beacons to aid them, and no tribe to return to, they are a glorious pair of misfits: A band apart."

It’s been a long while since the ‘The Lone Ranger’s heyday on TV back in the 40s and 50s, with more than a few luckless adaptations along the way, but if Depp, Bruckheimer and Verbinski can turn a theme-park ride into a £2.3billion film franchise, then it looks like the Ranger could be in luck. Hi-yo Silver! Away!
