The Neverending Story Exhibition In Munich Lets You Ride Falkor
‘The Neverending Story’ fans rejoice – now you too can ride Falkor.
Bavaria Film in Munich is one of the largest film-making facilities in Europe, and regularly opens its door to visitors, much like Universal Studios. But while it’s seen numerous famous directors (such as Alfred Hitchcock and Orson Welles) pass through its gates, it was also the studio where ‘The Neverending Story’ was filmed.
And as it turns out, it still houses many of the original props.

‘The Neverending Story’ was released in 1984 and soon became a cult classic – known by many for its fantastical setting and rather awesome puppetry. Barret Oliver stars as Bastian Balthazar Bux, a 12-year-old boy who finds himself literally drawn into the story of a book he discovers during a visit to an antique bookstore.
Along with numerous backdrops and scenes from the ‘The Neverending Story’, the more impressive items are some of the creatures which appear in the film.
You can grab a photo riding the Racing Snail – you know, the one ridden by iconic actor Deep Roy in the movie… or even pay a visit to the Rockbiter, who quickly gulps down some limestone (with a dash of quartz).
But the best part?
You can ride Falkor the Luckdragon – companion of Atreyu and Bastian who helps them find a cure for the Empress… and eventually accompanies Bastian to the real world.
Falkor the Luckdragon has become synonymous with ‘The Neverending Story’ and has made numerous pop culture appearances, such as in ‘Family Guy’ where he is unable to support the weight of his rider – Peter Griffin.
This particular prop was used to film side shots of Falkor throughout the movie… and it’s the only version left of this rather impressive feat of practical film-making.
And now you can find out what it’s like to ride a luckdragon, too.
