‘The Predator’ may have already found its prey…
According to Deadline, the 49-year-old ‘Sicario’ star is in talks to join ‘The Predator’ - the upcoming ‘Predator’ reboot heading to cinemas in 2018.
“Benicio Del Toro is in early talks to star in Predator,” they revealed, “the reboot of the franchise in works at 20th Century Fox.”
Of course, ‘The Predator’ has been in the works for some time, with director Shane Black taking the helm after starring as Hawkins in the original 1987 movie.
But who will Benicio Del Toro play?
If he ends up landing the role, that’s rather uncertain. After all, we know that the main protagonist of the movie is provisionally named ‘Quinn MacKenna’… and that doesn’t really sound like a role that’s up Del Toro’s street.
“The hero of the new one, the name I’ve given the guy in Predator right now is Quinn MacKenna,” said Shane Black. “And that may change.”
Could Benicio Del Toro end up playing the main protagonist? It’s certainly possible… but I can’t help thinking he’ll take more of a supporting, or even villainous role.
So what’s ‘The Predator’ all about?
Black has described ‘The Predator’ as ‘the biggest Predator yet’, emphasising that the movie will take the premise of the original and turn it into something far more spectacular. But with the studio throwing plenty of money at the reboot, can we guarantee an excellent movie?
“I think the first [Predator] was great, and it was contained, and it was a perfect little gem for what it was,” said Black. “I think there’s an expansion that needs to take place, and also just a love for that era, that movie, and the mythology of the Predator. I think that they came to me knowing pretty much that… they said, basically, if I wanted to make Predator but treat it like it was Iron Man III instead of just another little movie.”
“I said, ‘Let’s really do it right this time’.”
‘The Predator’ heads to cinemas on 2 March 2018.
