This Life-Sized R2-D2 Fridge IS The Droid You’re Looking For

Just when you thought ‘Star Wars’ tie-in merchandise couldn’t get any more bizarre, behold the R2-D2 fridge. Haier Asia’s AQUA have created a life-sized scale version of R2-D2 and has been modified into the perfect place to store your beers and snacks.

Unfortunately it isn’t available here in the UK, as it’s exclusive to Japan, but even if it were, the price tag alone would likely dissuade you. It’ll cost Japanese fans a whopping ¥1,077,840 (£5, 816).

It moves, acts and sounds exactly like the R2 unit we see in the films; the only difference being this has a built-in fridge in the body and isn’t self-aware, obviously. The droid’s even kitted out with a projector, so not only can you recreate the famous Princess Leia distress message we see in ‘A New Hope’, but (we’re presuming) you can watch the movies with it too.

Maybe this is in fact the fridge you’re looking for because, as random as it may be, looks extremely cool (pardon the pun). It’s built to a 1:1 scale and is operated by remote control, so you can have beverages brought to you while watching the classic films.

This incredibly detailed droid certainly looks the part and will no doubt be sought after by collectors. Sure, the fridge space isn’t huge - you can comfortably fit a six-pack of beers inside, but it’s a (geek) status symbol more than anything.

It’s safe to say this isn’t the weirdest ‘Star Wars’-related thing we’ve ever seen - far from it - but its one of the pricier, more impressive pieces of memorabilia you could conceivably fit into your home, providing you’ve got the room.

The R2-D2 remote control fridge is due out in 2016, with ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ hitting UK cinemas on 17 December.
