Thor: Ragnarok Begins Filming

It’s official – the upcoming ‘Thor’ sequel has started shooting.

Marvel co-president Louis D’Esposito took to Twitter to wish the cast and crew of ‘Thor 3’ all the best… and revealed that they officially began filming today.

“Best of luck to @TaikaWaititi and the whole cast and crew of #ThorRagnarok,” he said. “July 4 they started filming. Australia is in the future.”

Meanwhile, ‘Ant-Man; director Peyton Reed sent his well wishes to ‘Thor 3’ director Taika Waititi… who responded with a cool behind-the-scenes image of the crew’s chairs on set.

“Pretty sweet 1st day,” replied the ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ director. “Look at all these people who turned up to work. #Blessed #support”

According to the Gold Coast Bulletin, the upcoming ‘Thor’ sequel will be filming until late October… not including the usual pick-ups, of course. And that means that Chris Hemsworth – the Australian lead actor – will be close to his family throughout the production.

But what do we know about ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ so far?

At the moment, very little. It’s been revealed that Mark Ruffalo will be reprising the role of the Hulk… and many fans are hoping this may segue into the Planet Hulk storyline from the comic books. But for now, that remains to be seen. Either way, it looks as though the two will be buddying up.

And with some classic Marvel villains such as Grandmaster and Hela set to appear, it looks as though it’s going to be quite the return for Thor.

Then there’s the name: ‘Ragnarok’. Will this be the end of Asgard?

‘Thor: Ragnarok’ stars Chris Hemsworth as Thor, with Cate Blanchett, Tessa Thompson, Jeff Goldblum and Karl Urban joining him. Anthony Hopkins returns as Odin, with Mark Ruffalo as the hulk and Tom Hiddleston as Loki.

Taika Waititi is directing, based on a script by Stephany Folsom, Craig Kyle and Christopher Yost.

‘Thor: Ragnarok’ heads to cinemas on 27 October 2017.
