Thor: Ragnarok Cast To Include Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum & Karl Urban

There are a few big names on their way to Asgard.

In an official statement, Marvel have announced the cast of the upcoming ‘Thor: Ragnarok,’ which will see Chris Hemsworth headline his third solo adventure as the God of Thunder - this time with Mark Ruffalo’s Bruce Banner/The Hulk in tow.

And they’ve got some real thespian muscle in there with them, as Cate Blanchett, Jeff Goldblum and Karl Urban are confirmed to appear in the film, as well as the previously announced Tessa Thompson.

Two-time Oscar winner Blanchett (no stranger to epic fantasy thanks to ‘The Lord of the Rings’ and ‘The Hobbit’) will portray “the mysterious and powerful new villain Hela.”

‘Jurassic Park’ and ‘Independence Day’ star Goldblum is set to appear as “the eccentric Grandmaster,” whilst Urban (another ‘Lord of the Rings’ alumnus, since seen in ‘Star Trek’ and ‘Dredd’) is Skurge - a mighty Asgardian warrior, unsurprisingly.

‘Creed’ and ‘Selma’ actress Thompson, meanwhile, is confirmed to portray Valkyrie - which we sadly predict will inspire vitriol for some pockets of fandom, given the character is traditionally as white and blonde as Thor.

Also confirmed to return from the previous ‘Thor’ movies are Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Idris Elba as Heimdall, and Anthony Hopkins as Odin.

However, there will be no appearance from Thor’s earthbound associates Natalie Portman, Stellan Skarsgård or Kat Dennings - which lends credence to reports that ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ will have no scenes set on Earth.

Marvel president Kevin Feige naturally had nothing but praise for his impressive cast, remarking, “The continuation of the epic Thor franchise will be powerful and unique, and with the additions of Cate, Jeff, Tessa, Karl, and Mark to the cast we have the makings of his most dangerous and heroic adventure yet.

“The sheer, raw talent each of these actors brings to the screen can’t be quantified. Having any one of them join the Marvel Cinematic Universe would be an honor, and having all of them is incredible.“

In another of Marvel’s surprising director choices, Taika Waititi (’What We Do In The Shadows’) takes the helm on ‘Thor: Ragnarok,’ working from a script by Stephany Folsom and Christopher Yost.

Shooting soon, ‘Thor: Ragnarok’ opens in November 2017. This will top off a big year for Marvel: ‘Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2′ comes first in May 2017, followed by ‘Spider-Man: Homecoming’ that July.
