Thousands of sheep feared drowned after cargo ship overturns in Romania

Romanian emergency services workers launched an operation to save over 14,000 sheep after a ship carrying them overturned on Sunday (November 24), although many of the animals were believed to have drowned.

The Queen Hind capsized near the Black Sea port of Midia on its voyage to Saudi Arabia, trapping thousands of livestock on board.

The ship's crew, reported to be Syrian nationals, were rescued, as were a small number of sheep.

Romanian authorities said an investigation would be carried out after the rescue operation was over.
