New Thunderbolts trailer finally solves long-running MCU mystery

Marvel's new Thunderbolts* trailer just solved a long-running MCU mystery.

The upcoming blockbuster brings together a team of anti-heroes - including Yelena Belova, Bucky Barnes, Red Guardian, John Walker, Ghost and Taskmaster - for a mission mandated by government agent Valentina Allegra de Fontaine.

As well as giving fans a glimpse into the team-up, the film's newly-released trailer reveals that Fontaine now owns Avengers Tower, which was previously owned by the late Tony Stark.

"How crazy is it to think of all the monumental fights that happened exactly here where you're standing?" she asks the team once they arrive at the tower. "I mean, the place wasn't cheap, but it has good optics."

Elsewhere in the trailer, Red Guardian, Yelena, John and Taskmasker get into a high-speed car chase. While it initially looks like Bucky has come to their rescue as he takes out the convoy of vehicles pursuing them, he then proceeds to shoot at his team members.

"That's not good," Yelena remarks, as Bucky aims his weapon.

Thunderbolts* sees Florence Pugh reprise her role as Yelena, alongside David Harbour as Red Guardian, Sebastian Stan as Bucky, Hannah John-Kamen as Ghost, Olga Kurylenko as Taskmaster and Wyatt Russell as John Walker.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus is playing Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, while Top Gun: Maverick star Lewis Pullman takes on the role of Bob, aka Sentry.

It was confirmed in September that the film's official title does indeed have an asterisk at the end, though Marvel Studios boss Kevin Feige said he won't be explaining what this means until after the movie's been released.

However, some fans have been speculating about what it could represent...

Thunderbolts* is released in cinemas on May 2, 2025.
