A TikTok star delivered a £9,500 ($12,000) tip to an elderly delivery driver who was struggling to make ends meet.

Derlin Newey, 89, works 30 hours a week at a Papa John's Pizza in Roy, Utah to pay his bills, which he was unable to afford on Social Security alone.

Earlier this month, he delivered a pizza to the home of popular TikTok creator Carlos Valdez.

Mr Valdez recorded Mr Newey delivering the pizza and having a friendly conversation at the doorstep with his family. He then posted the video to his TikTok page, where it went viral.

Many fans admired the kind Mr Newey, and questioned why he was still working at almost 90 years old. Mr Valdez then decided to set up a fundraiser for the elderly delivery driver.

Within a few days, he had raised $12,069.

On Tuesday, the TikTok star arrived at Mr Newey's mobile home with his wife to deliver the $12,069 “tip” to the elderly worker.

“We collectively collected a gift for you, and I'm here to deliver that gift to you on behalf of the TikTok community,” Mr Vadez told Mr Newey.

“How do I ever say thank you? I don't know what to say,” he sobbed.

The Valdez family says they hope Mr Newey will use the money for bills and medical expenses so he will not have to work so hard.

“This couldn't have gone any better,” Mr Valdez told KSL.

“He needed this. I'm just glad we could help him. We just need to treat people with kindness and respect - the way he does. He stole our hearts.”
