Tokyo Disney Parks Claim 600 Millionth Visitor

TOKYO — Disney’s theme parks in the Tokyo area – Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo DisneySea – recorded their 600 millionth visitor last weekend, according to park officials.

The lucky visitor, Yumi Sakai, and her family walked through the park gates on Saturday morning – 30 years and 363 days since the first park, Tokyo Disneyland, opened on April 15, 1983. Sakai was congratulated on the park stage by Mickey Mouse and other Disney characters, and presented with a three-year special pass.

It took Disneyland eight years and 45 days to record its 100th millionth visitor, but only three years and 228 days from go from 500 million to 600 million – or 4.7 visits for every one of Japan’s 127 million people.
