A  New York judge signed off on the final judgement earlier this weekend, according to legal papers seen by E! News.

It’s not known how the multi-millionaire couple’s fortune will be divided. They are estimated to have been worth £175 million at the time of the split.

Katie Holmes filed divorce papers in June. The 33-year-old cited 'irreconcilable differences' for the split and wanted sole legal custody and 'primary residential custody' of the couple's six-year-old daughter, Suri.

After the announcement the pair released a joint statement, saying: “We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri's best interests.

“We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other's commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other's roles as parents.”

Cruise and Holmes began dating back in April 2005. A month later the ‘Top Gun’ star announced his love for the actress during his infamous Oprah Winfrey appearance. The pair got married in Italy the following year.
