Tom Cruise has given fans a behind the scenes peak at how they created a car chase sequence for the upcoming Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One.

Posting a clip to his Twitter account, the Ethan Hunt actor gave fans a tease of the eagerly awaited film and also displayed more of his stunt driving skills.

Alongside the clip, Cruise wrote: "We've done car chases in Mission: Impossible movies before. But nothing like this one."

The video shows the Mission: Impossible team including director Christopher McQuarrie and stunt coordinator Wade Eastwood discussing an extended car chase sequence that takes place in Rome and sees Cruise drive two different cars with one hand.

The clip shows Cruise did actually drive the cars one-handed for realism.

Cruise says in the video: "Everything we shot is completely practical."

He then adds: "It all comes down to one thing. How do we involve the audience. I just want to give them that thrill."

Cruise's co-star Hayley Atwell adds: "Tom driving and drifting one handed through the streets of Rome, that was a day I will never forget."

Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One is the seventh film in the franchise and sees Ethan Hunt and his team tracking down a weapon before it falls into the wrong hands with the fate of the world at stake.

The film also sees the return of regular Mission: Impossible cast members Ving Rhames, Rebecca Ferguson and Simon Pegg while Vanessa Kirby also resumes her role as the White Widow from the previous movie.

Henry Czerny will also return to the franchise having not appeared since the first film as the head of the IMF.

Additions to the cast include Atwell, Esai Morales who plays the villain, Guardians of the Galaxy star Pom Klementieff, Cary Elwes, Shea Whigham and Rob Delaney.

Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One is in cinemas and IMAX from 10 July.
