Tom Cruise to sing with Beyonce?

12 March 2012

Tom Cruise could be tuning up for another musical role in Clint Eastwood's A Star Is Born.

The Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol star is said to be in talks with Warner Bros studio and the filmmaker to star opposite Beyonce in the musical remake.

Deadline reports that Leonardo DiCaprio, Christian Bale and Will Smith were first approached for the lead, but passed on it.

The film, which will be the fifth version of the musical since the original What Price Hollywood? was released in 1932, was originally scheduled to start shooting in February, but Beyonce's pregnancy and the birth of her daughter Blue Ivy delayed the start date.

The Dreamgirls actress, who will take on the role of up-and-coming starlet Esther Blodgett - previously played by Barbra Streisand and Judy Garland in the 1976 and 1954 adaptations, and Janet Gaynor in the 1937 original - is now said to be ready to shoot "as soon as June".

Tom's character is an established male star, who falls in love with Esther only to find her career ascending while his goes into decline.

Tom, who has been working on Christopher McQuarrie's One Shot, gets to rock out as Stacee Jaxx in the upcoming Rock Of Ages movie, which will be released on June 15.
