Tom Hanks 'taking it one day at a time' after testing positive for Covid-19

Tom Hanks has updated fans after he and his wife Rita Wilson contracted coronavirus, saying they are “taking it one day at a time”.

The Oscar winner revealed this week that the couple were tested for Covid-19 because they had been feeling “a bit tired, like we had colds”, and had “body aches” and slight fevers.

They tested positive and are now in isolation in Australia, where Hanks had been working on Baz Luhrmann’s untitled production about Elvis Presley.

The actor, 63, has now posted an update alongside a selfie of him and Wilson.

“Hello folks. @ritawilson and I want to thank everyone here Down Under who are taking such good care of us,” he wrote.

“We have Covid-19 and are in isolation so we do not spread it to anyone else.

“There are those for whom it could lead to a very serious illness.

“We are taking it one-day-at-a-time.

“There are things we can all do to get through this by following the advice of experts and taking care of ourselves and each other, no?”

Quoting Jimmy Dugan, his character in the 1992 sports movie A League Of Their Own, he added: “Remember, despite all the current events, there is no crying in baseball.”

Wilson shared the same picture, adding: "So grateful for the outpouring of prayers, love and support.

“Means so much and strengthens us."

The coronavirus was first detected in the Chinese city of Wuhan at the end of last year, but it has now been reported in more than 110 countries.

So far there have been more than 125,000 cases globally and more than 4,000 people have died of the virus.

The outbreak was a factor in the new James Bond movie No Time To Die being delayed by several months and many music stars have postponed shows in recent days. Production on several TV programmes, including Riverdale, has been suspended.
