Tom Hanks Thinks Splash Remake Is A Great Idea

It looks as though Tom Hanks approves of the ‘Splash’ remake.

During an interview with ET Online, the 60-year-old actor (who starred in the original ‘Splash’ alongside Daryl Hannah) revealed that he’s happy to see the film getting remade.

“Fantastic! Why not?“ he said, on learning of the remake. “Give it a shot!”

The upcoming remake will star Channing Tatum and Jillian Bell in a gender-swapped version of the original - Channing taking the role of the mermaid (or merman) while Jillian Bell takes the role of Tom Hanks’s original character.

But does Tom Hanks have any advice for Jillian?

“Jillian Bell is going to have a blast,” he said. “She’s just got to love that guy.”

“Channing Tatum? What a doof!” he added. “But if she can find some reason to be attracted to him, I’m rooting for her.”

The original ‘Splash’ starred Daryl Hannah as Madison – a mermaid who ends up coming ashore to find Allen Bauer (played by Tom Hanks), a human who she met many years earlier when he was just a boy.

But will the remake follow a similar story?

At the moment, details are being kept firmly under wraps. But I can’t help thinking we’ll get a variation of the fish-out-of-water tale which made the original such a huge success.

The ‘Splash’ remake is being produced by Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, Channing Tatum, Reid Carolin and Peter Kieran. Anna Culp joins as Executive Producer.

Who will direct? For now, we’ll have to wait and see. But perhaps Ron Howard will return to the helm to bring the magic of the original back to the big screen.
