Tom Hardy has transformed into Al Capone for a new movie, the first trailer of which is finally here.

In this new clip, the actor (who's previously played Charles Bronson and the Kray twins, among others) does some intense staring, swims with a few toothy reptiles and smokes a lot of cigars.

The film will follow the notorious gangster after he spent 11 years at the United States Penitentiary, as he battles with his enemies and syphilis.

Originally, the movie was going to be titled Fonzo, but director Josh Trank (who directed the excellent Chronicle and the very-not-excellent Fantastic Four from 2015) has revealed it is now simply called Capone.

He also confirmed that the film is now going to come out on streaming services rather than in cinemas as originally planned, due to the current global situation. Trank hopes that it will come out on the big screen one day, but for now, you'll be able to stream it from May 12.

It is Trank's first movie since Fantastic Four came out to overwhelmingly negative reviews and a load of bad publicity due to reports of a major bust-up between the director and the studio.

He even mentioned that he had his own cut of Fantastic Four (which he said was 'much better'), but the studio had made its own from reshot footage, which was the version released.

And he seems understandably chuffed that he's getting to put out his own vision this time around.

Capone will be released on streaming services on May 12.
