Tom Hiddleston Says He’s Up For Being James Bond

After a huge amount of speculation over who’ll take the reigns as James Bond after Daniel Craig, it appears Tom Hiddleston is up for the challenge.

Speaking in an interview with The Sunday Times after his lauded role in BBC’s ‘The Night Manager’, the Brit had a lot to say regarding the future of the James Bond franchise and any involvement he’d have.

“Time magazine ran a poll and there were like, 100 actors on the list, including Angelina Jolie,” he recalled. “But yes, it’s nice to be included in the 100. I’m a huge fan of the series. We all went to see ‘SPECTRE’ when we were shooting Skull Island in Hawaii.

Hiddleston, starring in Ben Wheatley’s upcoming dystopian drama ‘High-Rise’, reveals he was a big fan of the Bond franchise in general: “I simply love the theme tune, the tropes and the mythology. I love the whole thing.”

The actor’s dedicated fanbase took to Twitter after the first episode of ‘The Night Manager’ to profess his suitability as the next 007, and it’s only ignited the claim that the charming 35-year-old is perfect for the role of the suave loathario.

“If it ever came knocking, it would be an extraordinary opportunity,” he said about taking on the Bond role. And that opportunity might not be as far away as he thinks. With Daniel Craig insisting he’s ready to move on and is essentially done with the character, we could see a new face emerge imminently, regardless of Craig’s contract.

The ‘Thor’ star admitted he knew about the immense demands for the 007 role, saying he was “very aware of the physicality of the job. I would not take it lightly.”

This isn’t the first time Hiddleston has expressed an interest in the franchise. In October 2015, he told Yahoo Movies he’d love to be in a Bond film “at least once”, in “whatever capacity”.

While many movie fans would love to see Idris Elba’s take on the iconic role, Hiddleston would perhaps be an interesting and viable alternative. Here’s hoping it comes down to the two.

‘High-Rise’ is in UK cinemas from 18 March.
