According to The Hollywood Reporter, it looks as though Dominic West will be joining Alicia Vikander in the upcoming ‘Tomb Raider’ reboot… as Lara Craft’s father.

“Dominic West has been cast to play Lara Croft’s father in MGM and Warner Bros.’s reboot of Tomb Raider,” they revealed. “Alicia Vikander is starring as the popular video game character, an archeologist-adventurer, while Roar Uthaug (The Wave) is on board to direct.”

But what does the role entail?

Well, fans of the ‘Tomb Raider’ games will know that Lord Richard Croft is an aristocratic archaeologist… and that Lara generally follows in her father’s footsteps. When it comes to the most recent game – ‘Rise of the Tomb Raider’ – it’s far more literal. After all, Lara tries to prove Lord Croft’s theories about immortality and a link to the lost city of Kitezh.

And she manages to further her father’s research in the process.

Will any of this make it into the upcoming movie?

“The film follows Lara Croft as she sets out on her first expedition to finish her father’s research and uncover ancient secrets in order to clear his disgraced name.”

In the video game series, this is exactly what Lara’s attempts to discover the lost city of Kitezh are all about… but whether or not it follows the games so closely remains to be seen. And with alton Goggins reportedly playing the role of ‘Father Mathias’ it looks as though it may actually be following the events of the recent ‘Tomb Raider’ video game reboot.

Either way, it sounds as though ‘Tomb Raider’ is getting a pretty epic reboot.

‘Tomb Raider’ stars Alicia Vikander as Lara Croft, alongside Dominic West as Lord Croft. They’re joined by Walton Goggins, Daniel Wu and Leo Ashizawa.

Roar Uthaug will direct, based on a script by Geneva Robertson-Dworet.

‘Tomb Raider’ heads to cinemas on 16 March 2018.
