Tommy Hilfiger Eyes L.A. Digs

Your Mama hears from one of our more plugged-in Platinum Triangle real estate snitches that East Coast-based mid-market clothing tycoon Tommy Hilfiger is looking to add to his already prodigious property portfolio with a pricey West Coast residential outpost. The stars-and-stripes loving designer apparently — and not at all surprisingly — wants something glassy and modern with knee-buckling views and a pricetag in the vicinity of $20 million-$30 million, and, so the scuttlebutt goes, he’s discreetly checked out several newfangled contemporaries high above the Sunset Strip as well as in the coveted and impossibly expensive Trousdale Estates ’hood in BevHills.

Of course, Mister Hilfiger and his wife, handbag designer Dee Ocleppo, need another high-maintenance house like they need appendicitis. By our rudimentary calculations, the pair have shelled out well over $100 million on a portfolio of private residences that, in addition to their primary home — an imposing, 18-room Norman Tudor-style manor house on more than 22 acres in sick-rich Greenwich, Conn., that they picked up in 2010 for $31.75 million — includes a 5,655-square-foot park-view duplex at the Plaza Hotel complex in New York City. They nabbed the posh duplex in July 2007 for $25.5 million, renovated it and currently have it listed on the open market with a freshly lowered but still astronomical price of $75 million. In late 2007, the high-flying Hilfigers shelled out $25.7 million for a multi-acre oceanfront estate on one of the most prestigious and expensive streets in East Hampton, N.Y., and over the summer of 2013, they plunked down $17.25 million for a 14,000-square-foot oceanfront villa near Miami in Golden Beach, Fla., which they had done over in shagadelic Technicolor by “Million Dollar Decorator” star Martyn Lawrence Bullard, and filled with name-brand contemporary artworks — think Haring, Hirst and Basquiat — before having the whole shebang photographed last fall for Architectural Digest.
