Toy Story Land is almost open at Walt Disney World and we want to go there

Visitors to the “happiest place on Earth” are about to get a little bit happier. On Saturday, June 30, Walt Disney World in Orlando, Fla., is adding another realm to its multi-park, multi-land experience. That’s the day that Toy Story Land — based on the beloved Pixar franchise — opens to the public in the Hollywood Studios section of the sprawling resort. But some lucky folks are getting to visit Andy’s backyard playspace early via a June 28 media event and are sharing their stories and pictures on social media.

The 11-acre Toy Story Land offers a mixture of family-friendly rides that play with size and scale. Specifically, guests will feel as if they’re joining the ranks of the pint-size Green Army Men who are about to embark on an awfully big adventure.

The centerpiece attraction is the Slinky Dog Dash, a zippy roller coaster that takes its inspiration from Andy’s trusty (and stretchy) toy canine companion.

Early-bird visitors also enjoyed the Alien Swirling Saucers, a ride based on those adorable, claw-worshiping extraterrestrials.

And, of course, it wouldn’t be Toy Story Land without regular sightings of the franchise’s signature heroes, Woody and Buzz Lightyear. Those two characters — along with other toys from Andy’s collection — freely wander about the place greeting their new friends.

If Toy Story Land is this much fun, expect Walt Disney World’s next big attraction — Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge, coming in fall 2019 — to be out of this world.

Toy Story Land opens its doors on June 30 at Walt Disney World’s Hollywood Studios.
