How to Train Your Dragon has found its Hiccup and Astrid for the upcoming live-action remake.

Earlier this year, it was announced that the DreamWorks animated franchise would be transferring to the live-action sphere, with the movie due out in March 2025.

Now, the cast has been announced for two major roles (originally voiced by Jay Baruchel and America Ferrera), with The Black Phone's Mason Thames set to star as Hiccup and The Last of Us' Nico Parker as Astrid.

Further casting details are yet to be announced, but it seems the original director Dean DeBlois will be back to oversee the new adaptation.

Parker rose to fame earlier this year for playing Sarah Miller in HBO's The Last of Us, while Thames played the lead in the recent horror movie, The Black Phone.

How to Train Your Dragon is based on the book series by Cressida Cowell, and focuses on the hapless young Viking Hiccup, who aspires to kill a dragon to mark his passage into manhood, though instead he ends up befriending an injured dragon called Toothless.

While Hiccup tries to show his village that there may be more to the mythical creatures than they thought, they team up to combat humanity's prejudices.

Astrid's journey begins with disdain for dragons before eventually bonding with one herself. Her somewhat hostile relationship with Hiccup eventually grows into more too.

The first animated movie was released in 2010, and was followed by sequels How to Train Your Dragon 2 in 2014 and How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World in 2019.

The beloved franchise has taken in over $1.6 billion worldwide and produced TV shows, theme park rides and a live show too.

How to Train Your Dragon's live-action adaptation is due to be released in cinemas on March 14, 2025.
