The Traitors' Diane Carson breaks silence on being 'murdered' in epic funeral episode
The Traitors' Diane Carson has admitted forging strong friendships with some of her co-stars "detracted" her intended gameplan.
The 63-year-old retired teacher was "murdered" on the BBC One show by the Traitors - British army engineer Harry Clark, 22, business manager Paul Gorton, 36, and veterinary nurse Miles Asteri, 36 - in an emotional episode on Wednesday night (17.01.24), which featured an elaborate funeral procession for Diane.
At the beginning of the epic episode, the Faithful - the remaining members of the group aside from the three Traitors - were unaware who had been killed off, and they had to correctly guess by answering questions about each other.
The Faithful correctly identified Diane, and it was a particularly emotional moment for Faithful Ross Carson.
He was revealed to be Diane's son earlier in the series, and on Wednesday night’s seventh episode of the series he had to effectively had to watch his own mother's "funeral" play out in front of his eyes.
Reflecting on her time on 'The Traitors', Diane told The Sun newspaper: "My strategy really was just to be myself and make sure I didn’t make hugely deep friendships.
"But there were some people whose personalities I was really drawn to, and that detracted from any sort of gameplay I had in mind.
"When you’ve made friends and you’re chatting and sharing bits of your life with somebody, it’s actually then really difficult to think they’re playing a really clever game, because you have made a connection and an assumption that they’re nice people.
"There’s like an inside voice saying, ‘Oh, if they can behave like that in this game then maybe they’re not great human beings’, which, of course, is not true. They were just playing a good game."
Diane and Ross chose not to tell their fellow stars about their mother-and-son connection, but she has now admitted he nearly blew their plan in the early stages.
She explained: "He’d already started the secret incorrectly because he was supposed to tell everybody he came from Blackpool, but he immediately told everybody he came from Lytham!
"That threw my plan because I was going to tell people I was from Lytham, so I said that I came from Ireland."
Diane was "murdered" after she was given a "poison chalice" to drink from by Traitor Miles.
But that eventually led to Miles’ downfall, as fellow Traitors Paul and Harry turned on him and he was banished by the rest of the group.
