Kent Police arrived to find caravans and cars parked up on a green, but was soon joined by soldiers, because the land they were parked on belonged to the Ministry of Defence.

It is understood the land claimed by travellers on Tuesday in Folkstone, Kent is owned by the MoD.

A Kent Police spokesperson said: "Assisting our colleagues the British Army and MoD Police in the removal of an Unauthorised Encampment in Queens Ave, Folkestone.

"Working closely with partners in your community."

A British Army spokesman confirmed there was no Explosive Ordnance Disposal activity in the area, and their presence was part of the work to move on travellers.

Folkestone and Hythe District Council have also been contacted for comment.
