This comes after it was previously announced that Megan Stalter and Paul W. Downs, who’ve appeared as Kayla and Jimmy, respectively, since Season 1, were upgraded to series-regular status. Downs co-created the show with Lucia Aniello and Jen Statsky, and serves as a co-showrunner, EP, writer and director in addition to acting.

Season 3 takes place one year later, as “Deborah Vance (played by Jean Smart) is riding high off the success of her standup special, while Ava (Hannah Einbinder) pursues new opportunities back in Los Angeles,” according to its official description.

Production on Season 3 kicked off in December 2022 but then paused in February 2023, as series lead Jean Smart underwent and recovered from an undisclosed heart procedure. Filming resumed in mid-March but paused again for the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes. As announced back in January, Hacks’ long-awaited third season is officially set to release on Max this spring.
