Two elderly women sexually assaulted at Manchester care home by man who entered premises

The sexual assaults happened at a care home in Taylor Street in Gorton, Manchester

Police have appealed for information after two elderly women were sexually assaulted at a care home in Manchester.

Officers were called at around 3.35am on Monday to reports of an incident at the premises in Taylor Street, in the Gorton area of the city.

Police say a man had entered the home at about 3.20am and sexually assaulted two residents.

It is unclear how he got into the property.

An investigation is under way and the victims are being supported by specialist services.

The suspect is described as black and police say he was wearing a hoodie and shorts.

The man was quite well spoken and smelt strongly of body odour, according to officers.

Detective Inspector Claire Moss said: "This incident is incredibly distressing for the victims, their loved ones and staff at the care home.

"Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish exactly who this man is and how he entered the care home. I appeal to anyone with information which might assist us with this to contact us as soon as possible.

"We are obviously keen to hear from anyone who saw something suspicious on Monday but we would also like to hear from anyone who lives nearby who has seen something suspicious in recent weeks.

"I understand that this incident may cause concern for residents, their loved ones and people who live in the surrounding area but I would like to reassure them that security measures at the care home has been appropriately tightened."
