Tyra Banks Puts Big Ol’ Manhattan Duplex for Rent

OWNER: Tyra Banks
LOCATION: New York City, N.Y.
PRICE: $50,000 per month
SIZE: (approx.) 7,000 square feet, 5 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms

YOUR MAMA’S NOTES: Back in late 2008 or early 2009 Tyra Banks shelled out more than ten million clams — $10,131,587 to be exact — for a quartet of contiguous apartments in a glassy and then newly constructed tower in New York City’s Battery Park enclave near the southern tip of Manhattan. The smizing supermodel-turned-reality television mogul and two-time Emmy winning daytime chat show hostess spent who knows how long and heaven only knows how much more moolah to combine the apartments in to an approximately 7,000-square-foot duplex that, as was first discovered by the Daily News, has come up for lease at $50,000 per month.

Listing details show the sprawling, suburban macmansion-sized apartment includes a formal living room, dining banquette, paneled library/den, family room, and oversized eat-in kitchen all lined with floor-to-ceiling windows with north, south and westerly city and river views. In addition to staff quarters that include a staff kitchen, there are three en suite bedrooms on the lower floor plus a fourth en suite guest room on the upper floor along with a “sumptuous master suite” replete with sitting room, minibar, dual bathrooms and — not surprisingly given its fashionista owner — “an enormous personalized dressing room to house the finest wardrobe.” Other features of the condo spread, which includes smart home technology and a killer security system, include a fitness room, a hair salon and a dressing room decked out with a 360-degree mirror.

Miz Banks’ apartment can be rented furnished or unfurnished although, quite frankly, this property gossip finds the few furnishings seen in the few listings photos included to be rather, well, unfashionable. (Did the children note the end table in the living room shaped like a person with his arms wrapped around and holding up a cantilevered glass top? Egads! Not that we really want to know but where would someone even buy something like that? Anyhoodles, poodles…) Potential tenants also have the option to lease the apartment “fully staffed with a house manager, cook, housekeeping and personal attendant.” The amenity rich complex, where Leo DiCaprio also owns a $10-million-plus residence, provides its well-heeled residents 24-hour doorman and concierge services, an on-site valet parking garage, a 50-foot saltwater pool, fitness center, yoga studio, billiards lounge, bicycle storage, numerous terraces and courtyards and a private pet-grooming area.

Dedicated celebrity real estate watchers know that Miz Banks owns another, much more humbly proportioned 2,000-ish-square-foot condominium in New York City’s trendified NoLiTa neighborhood that the she bought in March 2005 for $2.065 million, listed in early January (2015) for $3.795 million and currently has in contract to be sold to an unknown buyer for an unknown amount. The veteran catwalker also owns a Spanish-style villa in Beverly Hills that she bought in 2004 for $3,085 million, and this property gossip has repeatedly heard the photogenic lady might like to upgrade her residential circumstances in Los Angeles in the near future.
