Tyrese Gibson Confirms Green Lantern Talks

Tyrese Gibson could be up for the role of Green Lantern after all… as he confirms he’s already been in talks to appear in DC’s ‘Green Lantern Corps’.

It’s no secret that Tyrese Gibson really wants a part in the upcoming Green Lantern movie. After all, he’s spent the last few months campaigning for a shot as comic book hero, John Stewart. But while many fans dismissed his hints and teasing as a plea for a role in the film, it looks as though Gibson may have been granted his wish.

During an interview with Collider, the 36-year-old actor revealed that he’s already met with Warner Bros. about a potential role in ‘Green Lantern Corps’.

“I’ve already had a couple of meetings at Warner Bros., so we’ll see what happens,” he said. “I do believe that there needs to be more black superheroes out there, but that’s not even my motivation. I think I would be the best Green Lantern and based on my fans and supporters that spent around $6 billion in box office receipts, I feel like there’s a fanbase of fans out there waiting to see me put on this green suit and do my thing.”

Although Gibson would love to confirm his role in ‘Green lantern Crops’ it seems he’s still waiting to hear from the folks at Warner Bros. But with a release date of 2020, it’s certainly nothing to be worried about.

“I would love to confirm something today but I can’t,” he said. “We’ll just keep following up.”

Of course, fans of Tyrese Gibson will know that he’s been campaigning for the role for several months now… taking to Twitter and Instagram as a means of adding fuel to the fire.

But it seems that wasn’t his intention from the start.

“Well I was innocent from the beginning,” he explained. “I was at home eating a bowl of Lucky Charms in my drawers, my ugly feet were out, and I got about six direct messages on Instagram with photos of me as the Green Lantern. This particular fan who did this fan art said that there was a community of people that had been talking for like a month and a half about who they think would be the best Green Lantern and they all picked me. I said to them, ‘I took the oath, and I am going to commit myself to this process of seeing what’s possible’.”

Will Tyrese be the only Green Lantern? Given the film’s newly announced title, it’s likely that we’ll actually see several Green Lantern’s on screen… and with a long-persisting rumour that Chris Pine is involved, perhaps we’ll see the two of them team up.

Either way, it looks as though DC and Warner Bros. have listened to Tyrese Gibson and his fans. Whether or not he lands the role, remains to be seen.

‘Green Lantern Corps’ heads to cinemas on 19 June 2020.
