UK weather forecast: Intense thunder and rain to batter Britain

Rain and thunderstorms are expected to batter the UK on Monday bringing a gloomy end to September.

The Met Office warned of wet and windy conditions with outbreaks of heavy rain in London and flood warnings in place in Wales and Scotland.

The forecasters did predict it to clear after midday for some sunny spells and blustery showers with a maximum temperature of 16C.

Longer spells of rain are expected to fall on the capital on Tuesday, and it will feel much cooler compared with recent days with a maximum of 14C.

Over the week a low-pressure system to the north of the UK is expected to dominate bringing heavy rain and isolated thunderstorms for all.

It came as a yellow flood warnings have been issued in Wales and Scotland on Monday.

Heavy showers are expected to hit Aberdeenshire, Morayshire and the Highlands.

The weather warning is in place until about 12pm on Monday.

The Met Office warned flooding of businesses and homes in the area is likely and transport services will likely be delayed due to the weather.

Between 25 and 40mm of rain is possible, and perhaps as much as 50 to 60mm in a few places, according to weather experts.
