Uncharted Film Unsurprisingly Pulled From Release
Hollywood just can’t quite seem to master adapting video games for the big-screen. Earlier this year ‘Warcraft’ joined ‘Need For Speed’, ‘Hitman’, ‘Max Payne’ and ‘Prince Of Persia’ as further failures in the attempt to buck this trend.
But rather than trying to find a winning formula with ‘Uncharted,’ according to Den Of Geek, Sony have instead pulled the film from release. They’d previously planned to release ‘Uncharted’ on June 30th, 2017, but it’s now disappeared from schedule with no news on when it might possible see the light of day.
Anyone who has been following the development of ‘Uncharted’ will know that this isn’t the biggest surprise. Over the last few years the likes of David O. Russell, Seth Gordon, and Neil Burger were working with Sony to try and bring it to the big-screen, while Joe Carnahan was hired at the start of the year to write a new script.
But they never got out of the pre-production stage, and neither of them managed to cast the lead role of Nathan Drake, too. With less than a year until its planned release date, and with production having not even started and Joe Carnahan put on to ‘Bad Boys 3′ by Sony, it was inevitable that ‘Uncharted’ would be sacrificed.
The huge popularity of the ‘Uncharted’ series, which has seen four games released since 2007, the most recent of which came out in May, 2016, means that Sony will likely return to the film in the near future for a release in 2018 or 2019.
Which, considering how much they’d have had to rush production for its original release date, is probably a smart move.
