Universal Sets Summer 2018 Release for ‘The Purge’ 4

Barricade your doors: “The Purge” is coming back for a fourth round.

Universal Pictures has set the release date for the next installment of James DeMonaco’s horror series: July 4, 2018. This will be the first “Purge” film that will not be directed by DeMonaco, though he will return to write the script. Universal is currently searching for a new director and has yet to announce a synopsis.

The last installment of the series, “The Purge: Election Year,” was released on the Fourth of July last year and was influenced by the presidential election, though the film was largely completed before Donald Trump began his rise to the presidency. “Election Year” ended with U.S. Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell) being elected to the White House on a campaign platform that promised to end The Purge immediately. Between Trump’s election and the film’s release date, expect the next chapter of the series to keep things politically charged as the New Founding Fathers fight to keep their annual night of violence alive.

“The Purge 4” will be produced by the same team behind the first three films, consisting of Jason Blum, Sebastien K. Lemercier, and Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller of Platinum Dunes.
